Liberty is rich in history- five local historic districts have been designated by the City of Liberty to recognize neighborhoods and buildings with unique historic significance. The architecture of buildings is often kept well-preserved, and in addition to the five local districts, Liberty has six districts and eight individual properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition, some popular Liberty landmarks include William Jewel College, Jesse James Bank Museum, Lightburne Hall, Clay Seminary, Garth House, Corbin-Davis House, Moses Lard House, Smithey-Richey House, Dr. William Dougherty House, Michael Arthur House, Madison Miller House, Garrison School, Adkins-Bruening House, Samuel Ringo House, Wine Cellar House, Wynmore-Wornall House, and Hughes-Kiersted House.
