Now, let’s dive into the ways you can make your Kansas City home more eco-friendly!
Invest In Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs
Investing in the right light bulbs can make a huge difference! Energy-efficient light bulbs use less electricity and don’t need to be replaced as often as regular light bulbs. LED bulbs are the way to go!
Install Solar Panels On Your Home
Solar panels are a key component of a green home. These devices are definitely a big investment but can end up saving you money in the long run. They can greatly reduce your electricity bill, if not completely eliminate it!
Insulate Your Home Properly
A well-insulated home will hold in heat properly. This will help save energy when reheating your home. Insulate your walls, windows, and roof! This is certainly more applicable to older homes.
Use A Programmable/Smart Thermostat
Install a programmable thermostat to monitor your heating and cooling systems. This can reduce the cost of your utility bill and save energy at the same time! Not only does this use your heating and cooling efficiency, but it also is really convenient. Imagine waking up to a house that isn’t freezing, going to sleep cool, and coming home to a comfortable temperature. Sounds nice, right? There are lots of great options to choose from when it comes to smart thermostats!
Install A Low-Flow Showerhead
A low-flow showerhead disperses less water than a standard showerhead. This can help save water and keep your showers shorter!
Pick Water-Based Paints
If it’s time for a new paint job, look for water-based paints that contain natural pigments when decorating your walls. Most people use oil-based paints, which aren’t as environmentally friendly and even might not look as nice! Be sure to properly dispose of leftover paint correctly.
Wash Your Laundry In Cold Water
Skip the heat and use your washing machine on the cold water setting! This will help save a ton of energy, and may also leave your clothes in better condition.
Hang Dry Your Laundry
Invest in a portable drying rack or some clothespins! During the summer, you can hang your laundry to dry outside and this will save a ton of energy. It will also keep your clothes looking brand new and they will last longer! Plus, they smell fresh!
Get A Recycling Bin & A Compost Bin
Recycle, recycle, recycle! This is something that is so easy to do on a daily basis, and that will go a long way. Recycle glass, bottles, paper, and cardboard. Turn any food waste and kitchen scraps into compost. You can then add it to your garden and use it as fertilizer for your plants!
Buy A Water Filter
Get rid of those plastic water bottles! Buy a water filter to promote drinking out of glasses or reusable water bottles.
Use Natural Cleaning Products
Natural cleaning products are just as effective at sanitizing your home, yet these products are better for the environment and your health! Natural cleaning products don’t contain harsh chemicals, and you can even make your own using items like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice.
Get Window Treatments
Bare windows let hot and cool air in through them. Curtains and blinds are necessary to keep that unwanted air out and can keep your home from feeling like an oven or a freezer! Many homeowners even double glaze these days.
