Do you know what a split-style floor plan is? You’ve definitely heard of 2-stories and ranches, but it’s possible that you haven’t heard of a split-style home. Essentially, these layouts consist of multiple floors that are connected by short flights of stairs. Usually, upon entering through the front door, you’ll be greeted by a staircase that goes up to the bedroom level and another that will take you down to the basement.
In a split-style floor plan, a portion of the basement is almost always finished and can serve multiple purposes. Many split-level homeowners will use the finished basement area as a living room, movie room, or entertainment space. If there’s an unfinished basement area, this space can be used for storage or even an at-home gym! Overall, this floor plan style is modern, unique, and open, making the home look spacious! In this blog post, we’re discussing why a split-style home may be a great option for your lifestyle.

Affordable
Let’s talk numbers! One of the perks of purchasing a split-style home is that they are generally more affordable than other layouts. A split-style floor plan usually costs less to build because it doesn’t have as many interior walls. These floor plans tend to have a modest square footage, so they require fewer materials to build resulting in a more affordable price!
Less Cleaning
Low square footage means less cleaning! If every room has a purpose, a junk pile is less likely to accumulate. If you outsource your house cleaning, then you’re likely to get a maid at a much cheaper rate than your neighbor with a bigger house.
Open-Concept
If you want an open-concept house, a split-style home is a great option! The living room, kitchen, and dining space are usually all in the same area. This allows you to comfortably entertain your friends and family.
Privacy
Unlike a ranch or 1.5-story floor plan, the master bedroom has more privacy in a split-style home since it’s not near the main living area. A staircase will separate the main living area from the bedrooms, offering a quiet getaway.
Low Maintenance
Last but not least, the upkeep in a new split-style floor plan is typically very manageable. Because there’s less house, you won’t have to worry about tons of maintenance or repairs.
