Install An Outdoor TV
Add a TV to the outdoor space! Flatscreen TV’s have gotten easier to install, and the only thing that you have to worry about is making sure it is enclosed in case of any inclement weather. You can watch the big game or a movie with the family outdoors on a warm summer night! What a great way to cheer on the Chiefs!
Build A Fireplace Or A Firepit
Many people often include firepits or even fireplaces in their backyards. End a long summer day with a bonfire and marshmallow roasting! Or, cozy up by the fire on a cool fall evening while gazing at the stars. You can enjoy a firepit or fireplace year-round!
Get To Grilling
Of course, put a grill in your backyard! Grilling is a delicious way to prepare meals. Enjoy burgers and barbeque in the summer, and steaks in the winter. Yum!
Invest In Nice Furntiure
If you want your backyard to be an extention of your living space, invest in some nice furntiure. Plush couches are key! You will want something to lounge on while you have a cup of coffee at sunrise or a delicious summer cocktail at sunset. Just be sure they are practical for the outdoors – aka water-resistant and washable!
Build A Kitchen
If you have the space, why not add an outdoor kitchen? You can make home-cooked meals outdoors, and you won’t have to worry about transporting food and dishes in and out of the house. Add a refrigerator and even a sink. Modern outdoor appliances usually come in stainless steel so they are weather-resistant and sensible. An outdoor kitchen is definitely a great tool if you love to entertain!
Add A Dining Space
Add a table and chairs for the whole gang to gather around! Enjoy meals in the fresh air and even play board or card games. If you have an outdoor kitchen island, be sure to add some bar stools for extra seating.
Incorporate A Water Feature
Consider adding a water feature to your outdoor space to create a relaxing atmosphere! The trickle of a fountain or waterfall can make anyone feel at peace. The sight and sound of flowing water have been shown to enhance tranquility! Plus, they look very pretty!
Install Lights
Don’t forget to light up the space! Hang string lights or add some solar powered sconces. Outdoor lighting will allow you to enjoy the backyard late into the evening. Outdoor lighting can also reduce the risks of trips and falls.
Plant Flowers
Greenery and flowers can brighten up any backyard! Easy, low-maintenance plants are the perfect option. Some that we recommend are catmint, hosta, allium, daylily, poppy, salvia, peony, yarrow, switchgrass, and coneflower.
Add An Umbrella Or A Pergola
You will need shade for those hot summer days! Adding an umbrella, a pergola, or even building a covered deck will keep you cool and provide shelter from any rain that comes your way.
Sprinklers Are Ideal
While adding all of this decor and building all of this furniture, don’t forget about the health of your yard! The most important thing will be making sure that you have a proper sprinkler system set up in the front and backyard. This will leave your grass looking luscious and healthy, and you can control it so it won’t spray you while you are relaxing!

Jeff says: “My wife and I have always loved one of the home plans that Hearthside offers (the Chandler II). When we decided to build a new home we compared Hearthside’s home plan to MANY others, and concluded that the Chandler II is the most functional, spacious and welcoming floor plan for our family. We love the large kitchen, living spaces on both floors, large closets and the attention to detail throughout our home. We worked with Hearthside beginning with picking out a lot to build on, all the way through closing. Hearthside’s process made everything easy! Picking out all of the features and finishes within our home was a well organized process, and everyone we worked with was amazing. When it came to timelines Hearthside was always on track and communicated with us every step of the way. I would highly recommend Hearthside to anyone that is considering building a home.”
