Natural & Artificial Lighting

Most people want their master bedroom to be a relaxing space to unwind at the end of a long day. Ambiance has a lot to do with the overall vibe of your master bedroom! Lighting plays a big role in the overall look and feel of any room. If you’re in the process of building your home, ask your home builder about your window and lighting options. Large windows offer great natural lighting and can save you money on your electricity bill. There are seemingly endless options for lighting. We recommend incorporating a fan with a light fixture into your master bedroom, as well as recessed lighting. To take it a step further, consider making your lighting dimmable!

Add An Accent Wall & High Ceilings

Accent walls are super trendy these days. An affordable way to make a statement is with a bold colored accent wall. If you have a little room to splurge, consider wainscoting or paneling. Paneling can come in many different patterns to give your master bedroom a unique look. In addition, high ceilings are also a great component to consider! They instantly make a room feel brighter and bigger.

A Beautiful Barn Door

We’re big fans of custom barn doors! Barn doors are great for separating the master bedroom from the bathroom. They also add a “little extra something” to the space. Not only are barn doors functional, but they also serve as artwork in your home. At Hearthside Homes, we work frequently with a local Kansas City barn door company, Walston Door Co. Their team can collaborate with you to create a custom door you love!

Walk-In Closet & Dressing Area

A walk-in closet is on almost everyone’s must-have list! Obviously, this is a great space for you to store clothing, but a well-designed closet can make getting ready in the morning a whole lot more functional and fun! You might agree, there’s a big difference between having a closet and a dressing area. An oversized walk-in closet will allow you to get dressed in that space! Many of our homeowners opt to include a floor to ceiling mirror and even an ottoman or island in their master closet!

Make The Shower A Good One

Showers are likely a big part of your daily routine. Invest in a great shower that you’ll enjoy for years to come! We highly recommend a shower with heavy-duty frame glass, as well as wall and floor tile. In addition, you can incorporate shelving and even a bench into your shower design! You can even splurge and get two shower heads installed in your shower! Don’t forget to make sure that your contractor installed a powerful ventilation system! PRO TIP: If a light directly above your shower doesn’t come standard with your remodel or build description, we highly recommend adding one! After all, no one wants to take a shower in the dark.

A Separate Tub Area Is A Nice Touch

If you have the space to separate your shower and tub area, we highly recommend doing so! Not only does this make the bathroom look nice and luxurious, but it also increases the resale value of your home. There are many different bathtub styles you can choose from. From built-in with jets to a modern freestanding design, there’s a bathtub out there that will suit your preferences and budget! Not to mention, who doesn’t need a bubble bath every now and then?!

Double Sinks

You might agree, double sinks are an essential part of any master suite! This is especially true if you’re sharing the space with another person. Bathroom vanities come in many different styles. Not only can a vanity make the space look nice, but it can also add a ton of functional storage to your bathroom! One of our favorite master bathroom vanity designs includes floor to ceiling cabinets. This gives homeowners tons of room to store grooming supplies such as makeup, razors, curling irons, hairdryers, and so on. You can even put outlets in your bathroom cabinets to make storing styling tools a breeze!

A Toilet Room With A Door

We don’t need to say much about this one! Having a toilet room with a door is a luxury that should be incorporated into every master bathroom. This is a relatively inexpensive way to make your bathroom more functional and less smelly! By adding a toilet room with a door, multiple people can comfortably use the bathroom amenities.
