Do Your Homework!

As always, the best piece of advice we can give to prospective homebuyers is to do your homework before signing your name on the dotted line! If that purchase happens to be a resale home, you’ll want to make sure all of the necessary inspections have been completed and that you’ll have the peace of mind that no unforeseen nightmares will pop up a couple of years down the road.

On the flipside, if you’re opting to pursue a new construction home, it’s extremely important to make sure you’re 100% confident in the builder you choose to work with! Due to a home being such a large investment, you’ll want a building process that’s easy to follow and a builder that’s consistently proven to be capable of producing a superb end-product! We compiled a complete homebuilding checklist in one of our recent blog posts! However, here’s a few topics you’ll want to discuss before finalizing anything:

  • References/Reviews – Does the builder have any proven examples of satisfied customers? Google reviews are a great place to gauge this!
  • Warranty – Obviously, if you’re building a new home, you don’t expect anything to be wrong. If some hiccups do occur though, you’ll want to make sure you’re covered!
  • Timeline – Building a home is an exciting process! At the same time though, the last thing you want is an estimated 6 month project to drag on for a few months past the estimated completion date! Make sure they have a system in place where you can stay updated on the progress and any timeline changes.
