There are several benefits to retiring in Kansas City including a relatively low cost of living, world-class health care, endless parks, delicious barbeque, lively sports, and seasonal temperatures. Why New Construction Is Better For Retirees
New construction homes are generally a better choice for retirees than resale properties. Resale homes often come with lots of work to be done. When you move into a brand new home, you won’t have to worry about repairing or replacing items such as the roof, water heater, etc. Keep in mind, not all new construction homes are created equal. The quality of the house will vary greatly depending on the builder. At Hearthside Homes, we have third-party inspections done throughout the house so that our clients can be confident in their purchase! Click here to view our spec home inventory.
What You Should Look For In Your Next Home
As a retiree, it’s nice to have an open-concept floor plan with all your needs on the main level. Ranch and reverse-style home plans are generally the best options. Floor plans that require you to use the stairs often should be avoided. If you want this to be your forever home, you’re probably not going to want to have to deal with walking up and down the stairs multiple times throughout the day.
A master bedroom on the first floor is ideal, which is why we recommend ranch or reverse-style floor plans. Low square footage is important to reduce the amount of cleaning and maintenance of the home. Walk-in showers with overhead lighting and hand railings are also practical. With all of these details in mind, here are a couple of floor plans that perfectly match these criteria!
Ranch-Style Floor Plan
A ranch-style floor plan has all of its bedrooms and bathrooms on the main floor. These floor plans are practical, wide, and one level. They are great for retirement as they are very easily accessible. Currently, Hearthside Homes offers three ranch-style floor plans, The Magnolia, Tahoe, and Meg. They come with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and features to make your retirement years comfortable. Click here to learn more about our ranch-style homes.

Reverse-Style Floor Plan
A reverse style floor plan is the reversal of the living space and the sleeping space in a two-story home. The master bedroom and living area are on the main floor, but the other bedrooms are in the finished basement. You won’t have to trek up and down the stairs, if you don’t want to! Currently, Hearthside Homes offers three reverse-style floor plans including The Ashton, Mckinley, and Monroe. They come with 3-4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
