Remember, moving from one home to the next shouldn’t be a chaotic experience. All the excitement building up through the building process should lead to the move-in day you’ve dreamed of!

So, without further ado, let’s get into some organization tips that’ll make your next move feel like a walk in the park!

Start Early

Being crunched for time during a big move is an awful feeling. The impending feeling that you either won’t finish or that you’ll forget something in your rush looms over your head and it is straight up stressful for you and everyone helping. By starting early you can save yourself a little bit of stress and frustration. This doesn’t mean that you have to start packing up everything you’re still using, but at the very least, start deciding which appliances will go in which boxes and if you’re feeling ambitious, start boxing up the stuff that you know you won’t use or need in the meantime.

Throw Out/Sell

As you organize and pack, you will undoubtedly come across junk that you have not used in years and probably never will. You have completely forgotten about it and all it is doing is taking up space in the back of your closet. It needs to go. It doesn’t matter if you throw it out or sell it, just get it out of your possession. I know it’s hard, but I promise you, you’ll be fine. If you start doing this throughout the packing process, you are guaranteed to make your move a little bit lighter and less of a hassle. And who knows, maybe you’ll even make a little money too!

Keep All Important Paperwork Safe

The process of buying a new home includes a lot of paperwork and documentation. This is all stuff that you do not want to lose. Even years after you have moved into your new house, it never hurts to still have it and know exactly where it is. To ensure this, I recommend getting yourself a couple of folders to put all of your paperwork in and label it as such. This will make it a little easier for you to know exactly where it is you stored all of these important papers. In fact, you should be doing this with all important documentation, that includes personal, legal, financial, and so on. Put all of it in labeled folders and make it that much easier on yourself to know where it is when it comes time to pull it out and find a new space to keep it in your house.

Label Everything

When you start packing things in boxes, take the time to label each box with what you are storing inside of it. By simply putting all your kitchen appliances in the same boxes and labeling them, you’ll save yourself hours of shoveling through all the other boxes looking for what you need in that moment.

Download Apps to Help You With the Move

Over the years, there have been several moving apps created to help people like yourself with many of their moving needs. Some of these apps include Realtor.com, LetGo, ParkMobile, Sortly, Nextdoor, Houzz. These apps all provide a range of services such as helping you sell what you want to get rid of, researching the areas you want to move to, finding home remodeling professionals and more. All things that with the right assistance will make your life that much easier while in the process of selling and moving houses.

Create a Checklist

When it comes to moving there are a lot of different things that need to happen all at once or in a certain order for it to work out as smoothly as possible. And with everything that needs to happen, it is very easy for certain tasks to slip between the cracks. Make yourself a checklist of everything that needs to get done and when it needs to get done by. This will make it easier to remember everything you need to do, and do it in a timely manner. I even recommend giving yourself a weekly goal to try and meet in order to move the packing process along. This especially works if you do choose to start the process early, like recommended above.

Pack a Moving Day Box/Bag for Yourself

Pack yourself a box or bag of all the things you know you will need with you during the move. This can include medications, a few sets of clothes, toiletries, baby or child necessities, whatever it is you deem will be necessary to have before you start unpacking your boxes and getting everything where it needs to be. I highly recommend keeping this set of items closeby throughout the move so that you can reach for it whenever needed.

Call the Movers Ahead of Time

Don’t wait until the last minute to deem which items you can move yourself and which you’ll need help transporting to your new residence. It’s important that as soon as you know what you’ll be taking with you in your vehicle and what you’ll need movers for, you make the call and talk to them about it as soon as possible. By doing this, you make sure that everything will get to your new home without a hitch and on time. There’s certainly no shortage of moving companies here in the Kansas City area. You might consider doing some research and calling a couple before you pick one though, to ensure that you are getting the best price and deal you can out of it.

To put it bluntly, moving is never an easy task, and somewhere along the way you might find yourself questioning if the whole thing is even worth it. We can assure you it is! Hopefully you’ve gained a couple tips that will help make the moving process as seamless as possible.
